An empty plot of land behind the Nobi house that serves as the neighbourhood children's default gathering point — Jaian's unofficial kingdom and the site of more schemes, games, and recitals than anywhere else.
The vacant lot is where the group gathers when there is nothing specific to do — which is frequently the prelude to doing something catastrophically specific. Jaian holds court here, Suneo displays his latest possessions, Nobita loses at whatever game is being played, and Doraemon occasionally wanders out with a gadget to see what will happen. It is also the recurring venue for Jaian's notorious singing recitals, attended by neighbourhood children who cannot leave without incurring his wrath. The lot has witnessed the launch of homemade rockets, the testing of invisibility cloaks, the beginning of at least three dinosaur-related incidents, and the aftermath of countless gadget misuses.
A scrubby rectangle of earth and patchy grass enclosed by old wooden fencing and bordered by the backs of residential properties. A few large stones serve as seats. A fat tree in one corner provides shade and a climbing frame. The ground is worn smooth in the middle from decades of children's feet. A hand-painted sign, faded almost to illegibility, once designated it as something official.
