Jaian's family home attached to their neighbourhood grocery store — the domain of Jaian's terrifyingly authoritative mother.
The Goda household runs on two speeds: Jaian's volume when his mother is away, and complete silence when she is present. The grocery store is a genuine neighbourhood fixture — locals shop there, and Jaian occasionally helps (under duress) with deliveries. It is the one place where the neighbourhood power dynamic inverts completely: Jaian, commander of the vacant lot and terror of the schoolyard, becomes a small, obedient boy the moment his mother raises an eyebrow. Jaiko does her drawing at the table in the back room, producing manga pages in the margins of the household's daily life.
A residential building combined with a small general store at street level, stocked with everyday goods. The store counter is presided over by Jaian's mother with an air of complete command. The back rooms of the house are lived-in and functional — the kind of home that runs on noise and activity. A bicycle leans against the wall outside.
