Small Light

Item from doraemon by

A flashlight-shaped device that shrinks anything its beam hits to a tiny fraction of its original size — and can restore it to normal size with a companion Big Light.

The Small Light is one of the most versatile — and most frequently misused — gadgets in Doraemon's collection. Shrink yourself to explore a miniature world. Shrink a problem until it seems manageable. Shrink an enemy until they are no longer threatening. The applications are theoretically endless; the consequences are reliably catastrophic. Episodes involving the Small Light typically feature at least one of: a miniaturised Nobita being carried around by insects, a shrunken object lost in the carpet, the Big Light inaccessible at the precise moment it is most needed, or someone shrinking something they immediately regret. The gadget pairs with the Big Light (Ookiku Naru Hikari) for restoration — a detail that is always remembered approximately one incident too late.

Appearance

A small, handheld flashlight with a pale blue or white casing, slightly larger than a pen torch. It has a single button and emits a focused beam of light. Its companion, the Big Light, is larger and emits a broader beam for restoration. Both look deceptively mundane for devices that violate the conservation of mass.
