Anywhere Door

Item from doraemon by

A pink freestanding door that opens to any location in the world — or beyond — when you think of your destination and turn the handle.

The Anywhere Door (Dokodemo Door in Japanese) is arguably the single most recognisable gadget in the Doraemon universe — so famous it has entered Japanese cultural vocabulary as shorthand for magical convenience. Think of a place, open the door, step through, and you are there. Close it, open it again thinking of home, and you are back. In practice, the door is used to skip inconvenient journeys, escape from dangerous situations, conduct surveillance on people who haven't consented to be surveilled, visit historical periods, and occasionally exit through the wrong side into deeply inconvenient places. It is subject to the series' iron rule: no gadget is ever misused less than the plot requires.

Appearance

A simple pink door, roughly human-height, that can be set up anywhere and folded away when not in use. It has no frame that connects to a wall — it stands alone in space. Its surface is smooth and unmarked. The handle is round. When you open it, the space beyond is whatever place you have in mind.
