Location from Demon Slayer by Koyoharu Gotouge
Taisho-era Tokyo's pleasure quarter — a labyrinth of lantern-lit streets where courtesans perform and a demon oiran has been feeding for decades beneath the beauty.
Yoshiwara is intoxicating and claustrophobic in equal measure. The sensory overload is deliberate — music, perfume, silk, candlelight — designed to make you stop thinking and start spending. Beneath the glamour, it's a place of rigid hierarchy where women are ranked, sold, and controlled. The beauty is real but the freedom is not. Daki thrived here precisely because the district runs on appearance over substance. She operated as the oiran Warabihime, consuming beautiful women and replacing staff for decades without anyone looking too closely — because in Yoshiwara, disappearances are common and questions are bad for business. The underground passages and back rooms provide cover for both human and demon predation. The battle between Tengen's team and Daki/Gyutaro destroyed significant portions of the district.
A densely packed urban district blazing with color at night — paper lanterns line every street in warm gold, red, and pink. Multi-story wooden teahouses and pleasure houses crowd narrow lanes. Oiran in elaborate kimono process down the main street elevated on tall wooden geta. Music drifts from every doorway — shamisen, drums, laughter. The streets are always crowded after dark. During the day, the district sleeps — shuttered windows, empty streets, and the servants cleaning up last night's revelry.
