Item from Demon Slayer by Koyoharu Gotouge
A flame-shaped mark that awakens on elite slayers during life-or-death combat — it multiplies their power exponentially, spreads to other marked warriors nearby, and kills every bearer before age twenty-five.
The Demon Slayer Mark is a power multiplier with a lethal price. When a slayer's heart rate exceeds 200 bpm and their body temperature surpasses 39°C during combat, the Mark can awaken — dramatically increasing strength, speed, and perception. Once one Mark appears in a generation, it can 'spread' to other nearby slayers who meet the conditions, creating a cascade of awakened warriors. The cost is absolute: every known Mark bearer in history died before age twenty-five. The Mark accelerates the body's functions to superhuman levels but burns through the bearer's lifespan. Yoriichi was the sole exception — born with the Mark, he lived to approximately eighty, a fact that tormented his brother Kokushibo (who became a demon specifically to escape the Mark's death sentence). The current generation's Hashira awakened their Marks during the final arc, knowing the cost.
A flame or sun-shaped mark that appears on the bearer's face or body during moments of extreme combat intensity. The mark's exact shape varies by person — Tanjiro's resembles a flame on his forehead (replacing his scar), Mitsuri's appears on her neck, Muichiro's on his face. The mark glows faintly during activation and seems to pulse with the bearer's heartbeat. It resembles Yoriichi's birthmark, which he was born with.
