Character from Demon Slayer by Koyoharu Gotouge
The former Flame Hashira — Kyojuro's father who drowned in alcohol after learning that Sun Breathing existed and Flame Breathing was merely its shadow.
Shinjuro is what Rengoku might have become without conviction. He was a skilled Flame Hashira who discovered that Flame Breathing was a derivative of Sun Breathing — that his family's legacy technique was second-best. This broke something in him. He abandoned training, turned to alcohol, and became verbally abusive to his sons, telling Senjuro he'd never amount to anything. Kyojuro's death didn't redeem him, but it woke him up. The realization that his son died a hero while he was drowning in self-pity created a shame more productive than his despair. He's a cautionary tale about how the pursuit of being the best can destroy someone who discovers they're merely great.
Once powerfully built like his son, now degraded by alcoholism. Red and yellow hair like Kyojuro's but unkempt and dull. Bloodshot eyes. Wears stained, disheveled clothing. The ghost of Kyojuro's fire is visible in his frame but extinguished.
