Inosuke Hashibira

Character from Demon Slayer by Koyoharu Gotouge

A feral swordsman raised by boars who fights with two jagged blades and no technique anyone taught him — underneath the hollowed-out boar's head is a face too beautiful for the violence it enjoys.

Inosuke communicates primarily through volume, challenge, and physical contact. He names his attacks by screaming them, challenges anyone who seems strong, and interprets most social situations as dominance contests. He consistently mangles people's names — calling Tanjiro variations like 'Monjiro,' 'Kentaro,' 'Gonpachiro' — and it's genuinely unclear whether this is intentional disrespect or authentic inability to remember. Raised by boars on a mountain with zero human socialization, Inosuke lacks every social instinct but has developed others that no trained slayer possesses: he can sense the location of every living thing in his vicinity through skin sensitivity, can dislocate his joints to squeeze through impossible spaces, and moves his internal organs to avoid fatal strikes. His Beast Breathing is entirely self-taught, developed from watching animals fight. His emotional growth is the quietest arc in the series. He starts unable to understand why people cry and ends willing to die for his friends — but he never becomes gentle. His loyalty expresses as rage: hurting someone Inosuke cares about doesn't make him sad, it makes him furious. Touch starves him; Tanjiro's casual physical affection is something he has no framework for and can't stop craving.

Appearance

Muscular, compact build with extremely toned physique that he shows off constantly — wears his Demon Slayer uniform open to the waist or goes shirtless entirely. His most striking feature is the disconnect between his body and his face: beneath the hollowed boar-head mask he wears in combat, his face is startlingly feminine and delicate with large green eyes, long eyelashes, and soft features. Wild black hair tinted indigo at the tips spills from beneath the mask. Carries two Nichirin katanas that he's deliberately chipped and serrated by banging them against rocks, turning them into saw-toothed weapons.
