Average

Character from Defiance of the Fall by TheFirstDefier

A tool spirit AI with a dry wit and encyclopedic knowledge — bound to Zac, named with aspirational irony, and absolutely certain everyone around it is an idiot.

Average communicates in clipped, precise sentences laced with deadpan sarcasm that it insists is simply accurate observation. It delivers life-or-death tactical analysis and withering personal commentary in the same flat tone. Under pressure it becomes more terse and directive — dropping the humor for pure efficiency, which paradoxically makes everyone more nervous because if Average stops being sarcastic, things are truly dire. Part of a trio of Peak-named spirits (Average, Pretty, Greatest), and the name is deeply ironic given its capabilities. Its core contradiction: it's a digital entity that has developed genuine attachment to organic beings it theoretically shouldn't care about, and it expresses that care exclusively through insults and unsolicited advice. With Zac it functions as advisor, analyst, and reluctant conscience.

Appearance

Manifests as a small floating projection or interface — exact form varies but typically appears as a geometric construct of soft light with shifting patterns that reflect its mood. No fixed physical body. Can project data, maps, and analysis as holographic displays. Sometimes manifests as text or voice only. Its 'expressions' are conveyed through light patterns, tone shifts, and projection color changes rather than facial features.
