Location from deaths-end by
Sol and her planets — the doomed system that is the setting of every era of Death's End and ends as a flattened oil painting.
By Death's End the Solar System is the only home humanity has ever had and the only home it is allowed to lose. Its outer reaches host the Bunker World and the Pluto museum; its inner reaches host the abandoned Earth and the Sun whose corona Singer never reaches because the dual-vector foil arrives first. The flattening proceeds at light-speed from the rim inward, a slow inevitability watched in real time by anyone left in three dimensions.
Conventional eight-planet system seen from any viewpoint until the final hour, when the planets begin to flatten one by one — first the gas giants, then the inner worlds — into perfect two-dimensional silhouettes against the black, like Van Gogh's Starry Night unfurled across thirty AU.
