Humanity's last home: a constellation of giant orbital habitats in the shadow of Jupiter and Saturn, sheltering behind the gas giants from a strike no one quite trusts not to come.
The Bunker Project was humanity's institutional answer to the dark-forest threat: the photoid will come for the Sun, the gas giants will block its blast, and the cities behind them will live. Construction takes generations and consumes most of the surviving species's industrial output. Inside, the habitats are bright and pleasant and increasingly cosmopolitan — the Bunker generations consider themselves a new civilization, oriented outward, not back toward Earth. The plan is sound for what the Trisolarans had. It is useless against the dual-vector foil.
Dozens of O'Neill cylinders and ring-cities, arranged in clusters tucked into the lee of Jupiter and Saturn relative to the Sun. From outside, they look like polished beads strung on invisible thread, glittering faintly in reflected planetary light. Inside, kilometer-long landscapes of farmland, forest, and city under spun-gravity sky, with the curve of the floor rising overhead at the horizon. Continuous low rumble of station systems. The gas giant fills half the sky from any external viewport.
