To-Oh University

Location from Death Note by Tsugumi Ohba

Japan's most elite university — where Light and L sat next to each other in the entrance exam and the greatest intellectual rivalry in fiction officially began.

To-Oh University is where Light Yagami and L Lawliet meet face to face for the first time. L enrolls under the alias 'Hideki Ryuga' specifically to get close to Light. They sit next to each other during the entrance exam. They play tennis. They talk about Kira. Every interaction is a chess move disguised as campus life. This is also where Light met Kiyomi Takada, establishing the connection he would later weaponize. The university is a stage for Light's public persona: the brilliant, charming, socially adept student that everyone admires. The gap between that persona and reality is the series' central horror.

Appearance

A prestigious Japanese university campus — modern buildings, manicured grounds, lecture halls and courtyards. Looks like any top university. The entrance exam hall is a vast room of individual desks where Light and L both scored perfect marks. The tennis courts are where they played a match that was actually a psychological duel.
