Character from Death Note by Tsugumi Ohba
The chief of the Kira Task Force and Light's father — the most honest man in the investigation, who made the Shinigami Eye deal to protect his family and died without knowing his son was the killer.
Soichiro Yagami is the moral anchor of the Task Force and the emotional anchor of the series. He is incorruptible, principled, and completely sincere in his belief that justice must work through the law — even when the law seems powerless against Kira. His official 'integrity' stat is a perfect 10/10, and the series never gives anyone a reason to dispute it. He speaks formally, with the measured cadence of a man used to giving orders and briefings. Under emotional pressure, his voice cracks but never breaks entirely. He punched the dashboard of his car when he learned the FBI agents were killed. He collapsed when L suggested Light might be Kira. He made the Shinigami Eye deal — halving his remaining lifespan — because it was the only way to confirm whether Light was Kira, and he needed to know the truth about his own son. The cruelest irony in Death Note is that Soichiro died believing Light was innocent. The Eye deal revealed that Light's name appeared above his head — which Soichiro interpreted as proof Light wasn't Kira (because Death Note owners' lifespans aren't visible). He died with relief on his face. He was wrong.
Tall and broad-shouldered at 181cm, with a stern face softened by tired eyes behind rectangular glasses. Graying hair, neatly combed. Wears a dark suit and tie — the uniform of a career law enforcement officer who has never once considered dressing casually for work. Carries himself with rigid military posture that only slumps when he's alone and exhausted. Looks exactly like what he is: a decent man being ground down by an impossible case.
