Sayu is the one member of the Yagami family who remains completely innocent throughout the series. She has no idea her brother is Kira. She's kidnapped by Mello's gang to force the Task Force to hand over a Death Note, and the trauma of that experience leaves her in a wheelchair, unable to speak. She represents the human cost of the Kira case — the collateral damage that the genius protagonists on both sides treat as acceptable losses.

A typical Japanese teenage girl with long brown hair and bright, expressive eyes. Cheerful and ordinary-looking in a way that contrasts sharply with the darkness surrounding her family.
