King of Death

Character from Death Note by Tsugumi Ohba

The ruler of all shinigami — a monstrous, ancient entity who wrote the rules of the Death Note and mostly just sits on his throne while his subordinates cause chaos.

The Shinigami King is the ultimate authority in the Death Note universe — the being who created (or at least enforces) the rules that govern the notebooks. He's barely present in the story, which makes him more unsettling. Ryuk tricked him into giving up a second Death Note. The rules say a shinigami who extends a human's life will die. The King presumably made those rules. He sits on his throne and watches his subordinates destroy themselves and doesn't seem to care.

Appearance

Enormous, grotesque figure with a globe-like body, a skull-like head with multiple eyes, and four skeletal arms. Sits on a throne made of bone in the center of the Shinigami Realm. Looks less like a king and more like something the universe assembled from leftover parts and forgot about.
