The Solar System in The Dark Forest is the prepared chessboard. Humanity has spent centuries spreading shipyards and observation posts across it, fortifying the ecliptic, building the Pluto-orbit antennas that will eventually broadcast the spell. Trisolaris has been watching all of it with a sophon over every desk. It is a system that knows it is being looked at.
