The home planet under sophon surveillance — and, by Book 2's end, a star whose coordinates are known to anything with a radio telescope.
Earth in The Dark Forest is the planet humans cannot decide whether to defend, evacuate, or accept the loss of. Defeatism becomes a political movement. Whole nations argue over whether to fund the Space Force or the hibernation lotteries. The planet itself remains gentle — the same seasons, the same oceans — while its civilizations rearrange themselves around the certainty of an arriving fleet.
The blue-white sphere of contemporary Earth, becoming during the Crisis Era a planet of subterranean cities, drained populations, and orbital infrastructure. The Great Ravine years stripped surface populations; recovery decades partially restored them. By the late book the sky is busier and the streets are quieter.
