The ETO survives the loss of its original leadership and Judgment Day raid because it was never centralized. Adventists want extinction; Redemptionists want subordination; Survivors want only to be spared. By Book 2 the operational ETO is the supplier of the three known Wallbreakers and the failed assassin pool that kills the woman Luo Ji is sleeping with rather than Luo Ji himself. The Trisolarans cease direct communication with the ETO during Book 1; the ETO continues to act in their interest anyway.
