The Doomsday Battle is the moment humanity's accumulated four-hundred-year shipbuilding becomes scrap. The fleet had assembled in parade formation to receive what was announced as a peace probe; the droplet's first acceleration killed Infinite Frontier within a minute, and proceeded to ram each Stellar-class hull in turn. Bronze Age and Quantum, already in deep-sea state, were the only warships to escape under power. Sixty thousand crewmembers survived in lifepods; almost two million did not. The battle ends the era of human conventional defense.
