Ye Wenjie

Character from dark-forest by

The astrophysicist who answered the Trisolarans, founded the ETO, and on a winter morning at her daughter's grave passed the two axioms of cosmic sociology to a young Luo Ji — then walked into the sunset.

By Book 2 Ye Wenjie is in her last year — a quiet, terminally tired woman who has decided the rest is none of her business. She speaks to Luo Ji like a tutor giving a parting assignment, half-joking, half-prophetic. She does not stay to see what he does with the seed she plants. Her old loyalties to the ETO are functionally over; she has no plans to argue with the future. She simply names the axioms aloud, watches him fail to understand, and goes home to die.

Appearance

An elderly Chinese woman, white hair pulled back, a thin dark coat against the wind. Slow, deliberate movements. Eyes that have looked at the sun too long and gone calm. She visits her daughter Yang Dong's grave alone in the snow.
