Manuel Rey Diaz

Character from dark-forest by

Former President of Venezuela, Second Wallfacer — guerrilla strategist whose stellar-grade hydrogen bomb plan is, in truth, a doomsday machine to drop Mercury into the Sun.

Rey Diaz approaches the Trisolaran problem like an asymmetric war: build the biggest bomb possible, then build a bigger one. He hibernates twenty years to let the science catch up, wakes to find the world has indeed produced stellar-grade hydrogen weapons, and proposes turning Mercury into a target range. The Wallbreaker reveals he intends to start a chain reaction in the Sun — annihilating humanity first to deny the system to the invaders. When he returns home to Caracas, his own people stone him to death in the square.

Appearance

A burly Latin American man with thick black hair going gray, a heavy mustache, and the soft-spoken authority of a man who has commanded jungle fighters. Wears a dark suit unconvincingly. Develops, after hibernation, a visible terror of sunlight and avoids windows.

Also known as: 曼努尔·雷迪亚兹, the Second Wallfacer
