Fraisse

Character from dark-forest by

Aboriginal Australian elder placed into hibernation in the Common Era to preserve his cultural knowledge — a mind from before the Crisis whose calm becomes Luo Ji's last refuge.

Fraisse has lived through Country and through hibernation, and treats the Trisolaran threat the way he treats weather: respectfully, without panic. He does not hate the invaders. He befriends Luo Ji during one of Luo Ji's wandering years and gives him the book's calmest piece of advice — that if you cannot stop something, you can at least not turn into it. He outlives almost everyone.

Appearance

A weathered Aboriginal man, gray beard, dark skin lined by decades of sun, simple linen shirt and trousers. Walks slowly, looks at the sky often. By the end of the book he is a hundred and fifty years old and walks with a carved stick.
