A haunted townhouse in the village of Barovia that lures victims inside with the ghosts of two children — its basement conceals a cult shrine demanding blood sacrifice.
Death House is a well-maintained townhouse in the village of Barovia, conspicuously nicer than the decaying buildings around it. Two ghostly children — Rose and Thorn — stand on its steps, begging passersby to help them with the monster in the basement. The children are bait. The house is the trap. Inside, Death House is a masterwork of escalating horror. The first floors seem merely old and dusty. Then the portraits start changing. Then the walls start whispering. The basement reveals a cult shrine where the house's original owners — the Dursts — worshipped a dark entity. The shrine demands a sacrifice, and the house will not let anyone leave until it gets one. Death House serves as Curse of Strahd's introductory dungeon — a taste of the gothic horror to come, contained in a single building that teaches players that nothing in Barovia is what it seems.
