Abbey of Saint Markovia

Location from Curse of Strahd by Tracy & Laura Hickman, Chris Perkins / Wizards of the Coast

A once-holy abbey above Krezk now ruled by a corrupted celestial — its halls are filled with mongrelfolk and its workshop contains a flesh golem bride-in-progress.

The Abbey of Saint Markovia perches on a rocky spur above the village of Krezk, a stone complex that was once a place of healing and sanctuary. Saint Markovia herself died fighting Strahd, and the abbey was named in her honor. For centuries it stood empty. Then the Abbot came. Now the abbey is something else entirely. The Abbot rules it with serene madness. The mongrelfolk — humans he has 'healed' by grafting animal parts onto their bodies — shuffle through its corridors. In his workshop, Vasilka stands in her bridal gown, a flesh golem assembled from corpse parts, awaiting completion. The abbey's chapel still radiates faint divine energy, but it feels wrong — like sunlight filtered through dirty glass. The screams of the mongrelfolk carry down to Krezk on still nights. The villagers try not to listen.
