Kolyan Indirovich

Character from Curse of Strahd by Tracy & Laura Hickman, Chris Perkins / Wizards of the Coast

The late burgomaster of the village of Barovia — a good man who died of terror after Strahd repeatedly attacked his home to reach his adopted daughter Ireena.

Kolyan Indirovich is dead when the adventure begins. He was the burgomaster of Barovia's village, a decent man who tried to protect his community and his adopted daughter Ireena from Strahd's predations. He barricaded his home. He wrote letters begging for help from outside Barovia. None came. Strahd's nightly assaults on the mansion — wolves scratching at doors, shadows pressing against windows, the count's voice calling for Ireena — broke Kolyan's heart. Literally. He died of fright. His body lies unburied in the mansion, and Ireena and Ismark cannot put him to rest until someone helps them carry the coffin to the church. Even in death, Kolyan serves the story — his funeral procession through the village is a crucible that tests whether adventurers will help the Kolyanovich family.
