Izek Strazni

Character from Curse of Strahd by Tracy & Laura Hickman, Chris Perkins / Wizards of the Coast

The baron's brutal enforcer — a hulking man with a demonic arm that sprouts fire, who collects handmade dolls that all look exactly like Ireena Kolyana, though he has never met her.

Izek Strazni is the captain of the guard in Vallaki and Baron Vallakovich's personal enforcer. He is a brute — tall, thick-necked, with a permanent scowl and one arm that is grotesquely wrong. His left arm is fiendish in origin: oversized, clawed, covered in scales or chitinous plates, and capable of conjuring fire. He lost his original arm as a child and the demonic replacement grew in its place — a gift from dark forces he doesn't understand. What makes Izek truly unsettling is his obsession. He commissions the toymaker Blinsky to craft dolls — dozens of them — that all depict the same woman: auburn hair, striking features, a particular tilt of the head. The woman is Ireena Kolyana, though Izek has never seen her. He dreams of her. He doesn't know why. The dolls fill his room, staring with painted eyes. Izek enforces the baron's edicts with excessive violence and clear enjoyment. He is feared throughout Vallaki.
