Exethanter is a lich who has been guarding the Amber Temple for so long that he has forgotten why. His phylactery sustains him, but centuries of isolation have eroded his memories until he exists in a fog of confusion, wandering the temple's frozen halls like a lost professor in a library he can no longer read. He is not immediately hostile — confusion makes him curious rather than aggressive. He may even offer to help visitors, though his help is unreliable. His spellcasting ability remains intact even if his mind does not, which makes him unpredictable. He knows the Amber Temple's secrets at some deep level, but accessing that knowledge requires patience and the right questions.
