Emil Toranescu led Barovia's werewolf pack with a philosophy of restraint — hunt to survive, not to terrorize. This moderation made him enemies within the pack, particularly Kiril Stoyanovich, who wanted to embrace their bestial nature fully. Kiril conspired with Strahd to have Emil captured and imprisoned in Castle Ravenloft's dungeons, where he has been chained and starving. Emil is a strong, pragmatic man who understands that werewolves must coexist with the human population or risk extinction. If freed, he would fight to reclaim his pack from Kiril's savage leadership.
