Doru

Character from Curse of Strahd by Tracy & Laura Hickman, Chris Perkins / Wizards of the Coast

Father Donavich's son, now a starving vampire spawn locked in the church undercroft — he retains fragments of his humanity and begs visitors to either free him or kill him.

Doru was a young man with more courage than sense. When a group of Barovians rallied to storm Castle Ravenloft, Doru was among the first to volunteer. They failed. Strahd turned the survivors into vampire spawn as an object lesson. Doru's father dragged him home and locked him beneath the church. Doru has been starving in the undercroft for weeks. He is emaciated, feral, with wild eyes and extended fangs. But unlike many spawn, fragments of his original personality persist. In lucid moments, he can speak — begging for blood, begging for death, begging his father to forgive him for what he has become. These moments of clarity make him more tragic than any mindless predator. He is dangerous, ravenously hungry, and pitiable.
