The Eternal City

Location from Crescent City by Sarah J. Maas

The Asteri's capital on Pangera — a monument to false divinity where the parasites who rule Midgard hold court in light stolen from the dying.

The Eternal City is the administrative heart of the Asteri's empire. It is beautiful in the way a prison can be beautiful — every surface polished, every sight line calculated, every citizen monitored. The firstlight here is so concentrated that the air itself glows, and prolonged exposure makes visitors light-drunk: euphoric, compliant, and slightly numb. The Asteri hold court here, receive petitions from Archangels and heads of Houses, and make the decisions that ripple out to every corner of Midgard. The city's population serves the Asteri directly — bureaucrats, soldiers, servants — and they live in a state of curated privilege that discourages dissent.

Appearance

A city of blinding white stone and crystal spires that channel firstlight in visible streams between buildings. The architecture is grandiose to the point of oppression — every structure is designed to make visitors feel small. The Asteri's palace dominates the skyline, its towers reaching so high they disappear into perpetual cloud cover. The streets are immaculate, the gardens are perfect, and everything feels slightly wrong — too clean, too bright, too controlled.
