The Starsword

Item from Crescent City by Sarah J. Maas

A Starborn blade that cuts through darkness and wards alike — half of a paired weapon system designed to end the Asteri, waiting millennia for someone worthy to complete the circuit.

The Starsword is one of two artifacts — paired with the Horn — that together can open or close the portals between worlds. Separately, each is powerful but incomplete. Together, they are the only known weapon capable of directly harming the Asteri. It has a will of its own. It chose Ruhn in the Cave of Princes, and later responded to Bryce's Starborn power with even greater intensity. The blade's light is anathema to the Asteri's darkness — it burns through their wards, disrupts their firstlight siphons, and hurts them in ways conventional weapons cannot. It was originally Theia's weapon, and it carries echoes of her power — and her rage.

Appearance

A long, elegant sword of dark metal that glows with faint starlight along its blade when wielded by a Starborn. The hilt is wrapped in aged leather over an intricate guard. When active, the blade blazes white — not reflected light but generated light, as though the sword contains a piece of a star. It feels alive in the hand, with a subtle vibration that responds to the wielder's intent.
