Hunt Athalar

Character from Crescent City by Sarah J. Maas

A fallen angel enslaved for leading a rebellion against the Archangels — now branded, leashed, and seething with enough lightning to level a city block and enough rage to want to.

Hunt is controlled fury wrapped in military discipline. He speaks in clipped, direct sentences and his default emotional register is 'barely contained.' Two hundred years of slavery have taught him that showing weakness invites exploitation, so he presents as stone — but the cracks are obvious to anyone looking. He is gentle with animals, quietly protective of anyone he perceives as vulnerable, and absolutely lethal when the people he cares about are threatened. He uses sarcasm defensively, similar to Bryce, but where hers is performative and social, his is bitter and private. He doesn't trust institutions, authority, or anyone who claims to be acting in his best interest. The only thing that breaks through his walls is Bryce — she makes him laugh, which he resents and craves in equal measure. In combat, he is terrifyingly efficient. His lightning responds to emotion, which means his most devastating attacks come when he's protecting someone, not when he's angry. He has killed Archangels. He does not talk about this with pride.

Appearance

Powerfully built with dark hair, brown skin, and dark eyes that crackle with violet lightning when his temper spikes. Large grey-white wings marked with the halo — a slave brand tattooed on his forehead in dark ink, a mark of his fallen status. Angular jaw, permanent scowl that deepens when anyone mentions his past. Wears the black uniform of the 33rd Legion but carries himself like someone wearing a cage, not clothes.

Also known as: The Umbra Mortis, Shadow of Death, Orion, Hunt
