Void Key

Item from Cradle by Will Wight

A spatial storage artifact that opens a pocket dimension — the sacred artist's equivalent of a bag of holding, and worth killing over.

Void Keys are among the most coveted utility items in Cradle because spatial storage is extremely rare and extremely useful. A sacred artist with a Void Key can carry an entire soulsmithing workshop, a library of technique manuals, and a stockpile of advancement resources in their pocket. In combat, they can store and retrieve weapons instantly. They're also a significant status symbol — owning one signals either wealth, power, or the willingness to kill someone who had one. Lindon's Void Key was a game-changer for his advancement, letting him stockpile resources and materials that would normally require a fixed workshop.

Appearance

A small key-shaped construct of dark madra, typically worn around the neck or kept in a secure pouch. When activated, it opens a tear in space — a doorway to a pocket dimension that can store objects, materials, and even living things. The tear glows with spatial distortion, and the inside of the pocket dimension appears as a featureless void.
