Item from Cradle by Will Wight
A glass marble containing a vision of the wider world — the gift that Suriel left for Lindon, showing him that power beyond Sacred Valley existed and his home was destined for destruction.
Suriel's marble is the inciting object of the entire series. When Suriel visited Cradle and encountered Lindon, she left him this marble — a recording of her fixing the damage to Sacred Valley, plus a vision of the wider world. It showed him Monarchs, Dreadgods, and the Abidan — powers so far beyond Sacred Valley's comprehension that the valley's strongest fighter wouldn't register as a threat. The marble didn't give Lindon power. It gave him something more dangerous: the knowledge that power existed and could be reached. Every sacrifice, every desperate advancement, every battle that almost killed him traces back to a boy looking into a glass marble and deciding that he would not accept the ceiling the world had set for him.
A small, perfectly clear glass marble that doesn't reflect light normally — instead, it shows scenes from across the world and beyond. When activated, it projects images of Cradle's continents, the Monarchs, the Dreadgods, and the multiverse-scale operations of the Abidan. It weighs almost nothing but feels significant in a way that transcends physics.
