Character from Cradle by Will Wight
A gold dragon in human form competing in the Uncrowned tournament — fueled by the grief of watching her clutch-siblings die and a desperate need to win a weapon that could change the balance of power.
Sophara is not a villain — she's a soldier carrying the weight of her dead siblings and the expectations of her entire species. The gold dragons sent their best to the Uncrowned tournament, and her siblings died before the finals. She's the last one standing, fighting for Penance — a weapon that could kill a Monarch — because without it, the gold dragons face extinction at Malice's hands. She hates Lindon's group not because they're evil but because they stand between her and the survival of everyone she loves. Under different circumstances, she might have been an ally. In these circumstances, she's a desperate, terrifyingly competent enemy who will not stop.
In human form: tall, golden-skinned, with slit-pupiled golden eyes and hair that catches light like metallic scales. Her Goldsign manifests as golden dragon wings and a faint shimmer of scales along her arms and neck. In dragon form: a massive gold-scaled serpentine dragon wreathed in golden fire. She moves with predatory grace in either form.
