Character from Cradle by Will Wight
An Unsouled from a backwater valley who advances at impossible speed through sheer preparation, lateral thinking, and an absolute refusal to accept a ceiling — becoming a force that reshapes the world.
Lindon is polite to the point of absurdity and ambitious to the point of madness. He grew up Unsouled — the lowest status possible in Sacred Valley — and that experience burned two things into him permanently: a bone-deep courtesy toward anyone who might crush him, and an absolute refusal to accept that his current stage is his ceiling. He bows, he apologizes, he calls everyone 'honored,' and then he outworks every prodigy in the room through preparation and lateral thinking. He thinks like an engineer, not a warrior. Where a natural genius relies on talent and instinct, Lindon studies techniques, builds systems, stockpiles resources, and creates contingency plans. He practices two paths simultaneously — pure madra and destructive Blackflame — which everyone considers either genius or insanity. He collects advantages the way other people collect debts. Under pressure, Lindon becomes calmer and more calculating. His courtesy drops only when someone he loves is threatened, and then the polite young man from Sacred Valley disappears entirely. He advances fast enough to make Monarchs nervous, which tells you everything about whether to be inspired or terrified.
Tall and broad-shouldered, with black hair and dark eyes. His left arm is a prosthetic construct of white madra laced with hunger bindings — it shifts and pulses with stolen power, visibly unnatural. He carries himself with a deceptive mildness, shoulders slightly rounded in habitual deference, but his frame has been rebuilt by successive Iron bodies into something dense and powerful. A black dragon sigil marks his soulsmith's badge. His eyes occasionally flash with rings of blue and black when both cores activate.
