Character from Cradle by Will Wight
The Monarch of communication — a sentient tree who became the most powerful being on her continent by spreading language and cooperation rather than conquest.
Emriss is the most unusual Monarch because she achieved her power through cooperation rather than combat. She's a sacred tree — literally a tree that advanced through cultivation stages — and her life's work has been spreading language and understanding between species and factions that would otherwise never communicate. She's patient in the way only a being that photosynthesizes can be patient. She was killed once and regrew from a seed, which gives her a unique perspective on death and persistence. She supports Lindon's plan to remove the Monarchs because she understands that Monarch existence perpetuates the cycle of destruction better than anyone.
In her physical form: a colossal sacred tree whose canopy spans acres, with bark that glows with green and gold life madra, and branches that sway with intention rather than wind. She can project a humanoid avatar — a translucent green figure of woven leaves and light — to communicate with individual people. Her presence calms the aura in any area she occupies.
