Character from Cradle by Will Wight
An ancient white fox spirit trapped in Sacred Valley who knows the truth about the suppression field — he speaks in riddles because the direct truth would break the people who heard it.
Elder Whisper has been alive for centuries, trapped in Sacred Valley by the same suppression field that limits everyone else. Unlike the humans, he knows what the field is and what lies beyond the mountains. He chooses to stay because he's old, tired, and has decided that protecting the people here — even through ignorance — is the last worthwhile thing he can do. He speaks in riddles and tests because he's learned that people who aren't ready for truth use it to destroy themselves. He saw something in Lindon worth investing in and nudged him toward leaving — which is the closest thing to hope Elder Whisper has expressed in centuries.
A large white fox with luminous golden eyes and fur that seems to glow faintly. He's larger than a natural fox but smaller than a wolf, with nine tails that fan behind him — though in Sacred Valley's suppressed state, fewer are visible. His voice emerges as an unnerving human-quality sound from an animal mouth.
