Every empire begins here — in a place that was once nothing more than a defensible position and a reliable water source. The Capital City is the player's home base: the first city they found, the last they would ever allow to fall. Its production queues, its population, and its connections to the surrounding land will define the early shape of the civilization. The feel of the Capital City changes with its age. In the ancient era it is rough and unfinished. By the medieval era it has walls, markets, and a spire or two. By the industrial era it is a true city. And in the modern era it is a metropolis whose skyline announces to the world that this civilization intends to last.
A cluster of buildings on a gentle rise above a wide river. The streets are dirt packed hard by foot traffic. A granary, a monument stone, and a warrior barracks are the only permanent structures so far. The smell of fresh-cut timber and cook fires hangs in the morning air.
