The Nerds' fortress — a hilltop observatory that Earnest's crew has fortified with booby traps, surveillance, and the desperate ingenuity of outcasts who know they can't win a straight fight.
The Observatory is what happens when smart kids who've been beaten up their whole lives get access to a defensible position and a workshop. The Nerds have turned it into a genuine fortress — booby-trapped approaches, lookout posts, and enough improvised weaponry to hold off a clique assault long enough for the prefects to intervene (which is the actual strategy, since the Nerds can't win in a sustained fight). Earnest runs operations from the center console like a general in a war room. The other Nerds treat it as sanctuary — the one place on campus where being smart isn't a liability. The Observatory's isolation is both its strength and its weakness: it's hard to attack, but it's also hard to get help to.
A domed building on the highest point of campus, accessible by a winding path. The dome still has a functional telescope that nobody uses for astronomy. Inside: the Nerds have converted the main floor into a command center with maps, plans, and Grottos and Gremlins paraphernalia. Workbenches covered in half-built weapons — spud guns, bottle rocket launchers, stink bomb dispensers. The walls are covered in comic book posters and strategy diagrams that treat the schoolyard like a battlefield. It smells like solder and Mountain Dew.
