Melvin lives in a parallel universe where Grottos and Gremlins campaigns are more real than anything happening at Bullworth. He narrates his own life in fantasy terms — a trip to the cafeteria becomes a 'quest for sustenance,' a bully encounter becomes a 'random encounter with a low-INT barbarian.' This isn't affectation; it's a coping mechanism refined over years of social exile. He's the creative engine of the Nerds, designing their campaigns and maintaining their morale through sheer force of imagination. Among his clique he's respected and even admired. Outside it, he's a walking 'kick me' sign who doesn't seem to notice the sign is there.
Gangly and pale with a bowl cut and thick-rimmed glasses. Has the complexion of someone whose primary light source is a computer monitor. Wears his school blazer over what appears to be a homemade wizard robe on special occasions.
