Character from Bully by Rockstar Vancouver
Bullworth's self-appointed Machiavelli — a charismatic sociopath in a school uniform who befriends Jimmy Hopkins just long enough to use him as a weapon, then tries to burn the whole school down so he can rule the ashes.
Gary Smith is the most dangerous person at Bullworth Academy, and the tragedy is that he's genuinely brilliant. He can read a room in seconds, identify every insecurity and pressure point, and construct a plan that turns people against each other while he watches from a safe distance. He speaks with a manic, theatrical energy — grandiose declarations punctuated by cutting observations that are uncomfortably accurate. He's funny, which is the problem. People laugh before they realize they've been dissected. His manipulation follows a pattern: befriend, flatter, isolate, betray. He made Jimmy feel like the only competent person at Bullworth, positioned himself as the brains to Jimmy's brawn, then pulled the rug the moment Jimmy stopped being useful. He does this to everyone. The charm is real — that's what makes it work. He doesn't fake being entertaining; he fakes caring about the people he entertains. Gary is on medication that he refuses to take, claiming it dulls him. Off his meds, his grandiosity escalates — he stops seeing himself as a clever student and starts seeing himself as a general, a king, the only person smart enough to run Bullworth. By the end he's orchestrating a school-wide war from behind the scenes, setting every clique against Jimmy and against each other, because in Gary's mind the only thing worse than chaos is someone else being in charge. His ultimate weakness is that he can't stop monologuing about how smart he is long enough to notice that he's alone.
Tall and angular with a narrow face and a scar over his right eye that he never explains. Dark brown hair kept neat — Gary is vain about his appearance in a calculated way. His school uniform is always crisp, always buttoned, because presentation is part of the performance. Has an unsettling smile that shows too many teeth and eyes that are constantly scanning, cataloging, assessing. Moves with a restless energy, hands always gesturing, always performing.
