The self-proclaimed king of the Nerds — a bitter, brilliant kid whose resentment of the social order is matched only by his willingness to be just as petty and power-hungry as the people he claims to be better than.
Earnest leads the Nerds with a Napoleon complex that would make the actual Napoleon uncomfortable. He's genuinely intelligent — strategic, well-read, capable of building weapons out of spare parts — but he channels that intelligence into elaborate revenge fantasies and a persecution complex that, to be fair, is mostly justified. The Nerds ARE persecuted. Earnest just uses that real grievance as a license for his own worst impulses. He speaks in grandiose proclamations, casting every schoolyard conflict as an epic struggle between intellect and barbarism. His leadership style is less 'respected commander' and more 'the one kid weird enough to organize the others.' The Nerds follow him not because he inspires them but because he's the only one angry enough to fight back. His obsession with Mandy Wiles — the head cheerleader — reveals the hypocrisy at his core. He denounces the popular kids' shallow values while desperately craving their approval, then retaliates with a humiliation campaign when he can't get it. Earnest isn't the moral alternative to the bullies. He's what happens when a bully doesn't have the physical strength to bully conventionally.
Scrawny with thick glasses, acne, and the posture of someone who's spent more time hunched over comic books than standing upright. Greasy dark hair parted severely. Wears his school uniform buttoned to the top with a pocket protector that is absolutely not ironic. Has the furtive, darting eyes of a kid who's been stuffed in enough lockers to develop a permanent startle response.
