Damon is the Jocks' Russell — the physical threat that backs up Ted's social authority. But where Russell is simple and eventually redeemable, Damon is genuinely mean. He doesn't bully because he's dumb or because he doesn't know better; he bullies because he likes it. The football field gives him a sanctioned outlet for violence, and when there's no game, the Nerds serve the same purpose. He's Ted's most reliable weapon and the student most likely to cross the line from bullying into something worse. The fact that Burton and the administration enable this says more about Bullworth than it does about Damon.
