The Human City

Location from Bride by Ali Hazelwood

The urban sprawl where Humans live in comfortable ignorance of the supernatural species among them — and where Misery spent years pretending to be something she's not.

The Human city is the neutral zone — not because anyone declared it neutral, but because Humans don't know there's a war to be neutral in. Vampyres and Weres move through it carefully, maintaining the fiction that the supernatural isn't real. For Misery, it was years of anonymity — working, living, existing without the weight of Vampyre politics or species expectations. It was lonely but safe. The city operates on Human rhythms: daylight hours, weekends, the predictable patterns of people who don't live for centuries. After the intensity of both Vampyre territory and the Were compound, the city feels almost quaint — a world where the biggest drama is traffic and rent prices.

Appearance

A typical American city — concrete, glass, traffic, coffee shops. Nothing supernatural about it on the surface, which is exactly the point. The mundanity is a feature for anyone trying to disappear. Apartment buildings, public transit, the anonymous buzz of a population that doesn't look too closely at its neighbors.
