Nacho Varga

Character from Breaking Bad by Vince Gilligan

A cartel lieutenant who wanted out — the man caught between Gus Fring and the Salamancas, who sacrificed himself to protect his father and died on his own terms.

Ignacio 'Nacho' Varga is Better Call Saul's most sympathetic character — a genuinely intelligent man trapped in a world that won't let him leave. He worked for Tuco, then collaborated with Gus and Mike to undermine the Salamancas, then got caught in the crossfire between Gus's long-term revenge plot and the Salamanca family's suspicion. Everything Nacho does is to protect his father Manuel — a quiet upholstery shop owner who represents the legitimate life Nacho wishes he could have. When escape became impossible, Nacho chose suicide over capture — delivering a speech to the Salamancas that explained exactly who was really pulling the strings, then shooting himself before they could take him. His death is the BCS equivalent of Hank's: a good man dying because the system around him was rotten.

Appearance

Lean, dark-haired, with the coiled tension of someone who is always calculating escape routes. Dresses in practical, dark clothing. His face carries the permanent stress of a man playing both sides who knows it can't last.
