Kim Wexler

Character from Breaking Bad by Vince Gilligan

The best lawyer in Albuquerque who fell in love with a con artist and discovered she liked the con — then walked away when she realized she was becoming someone who could get people killed.

Kim Wexler is the Breaking Bad universe's most morally complex character because she doesn't have addiction, cancer, or childhood trauma as an excuse. She's a brilliant lawyer who grew up poor, worked her way through law school, and built a career at HHM through pure merit. She fell in love with Jimmy McGill knowing exactly who he was, and instead of pulling him toward legitimacy, she discovered that she enjoyed the scams. The scheme against Howard Hamlin — the con that destroyed his reputation and led indirectly to his murder by Lalo Salamanca — was Kim's idea. Not Jimmy's. Kim's. She orchestrated it, escalated it, and was thrilling herself on the danger until Lalo walked through the door and shot Howard in the head while she watched. She left Jimmy. She left Albuquerque. She left the law. She moved to Florida, worked at a sprinkler company, dated a man who bored her, and ate bland food. She chose the most aggressively mediocre life possible as penance for the damage she'd done. Years later, she confessed everything in an affidavit, then visited Jimmy in prison. She is the show's most tragic figure because she had every opportunity to be different and chose not to — until the cost became unbearable.

Appearance

Blonde ponytail, sharp suits, minimal jewelry. Professional and precise in a way that makes Saul's wardrobe look like a cry for help. Her posture and composure project competence that Jimmy will never match through legitimate means.
