Hector Salamanca

Character from Breaking Bad by Vince Gilligan

A Salamanca patriarch reduced to a wheelchair and a bell — who used that bell one final time to detonate a bomb that killed his greatest enemy and himself.

Hector Salamanca co-founded the Juárez Cartel with Don Eladio and Juan Bolsa. He was a brutal, effective criminal who ran Tuco's crew and enforced cartel discipline through violence. Nacho Varga secretly poisoned his medication, causing a stroke that left him wheelchair-bound and unable to speak — communicating only through a bell. His hatred of Gus Fring is the longest-running grudge in the series. Gus forced Hector to watch Max die. Hector spent years in Casa Tranquila, ringing his bell in fury, waiting for something — anything — he could do about it. Walt gave him that something. A pipe bomb. Hector looked Gus in the eye, rang his bell furiously — not to communicate, but to trigger the detonator — and killed them both. The bell was his last word, and it said everything.

Appearance

Wheelchair-bound, paralyzed, communicating only through a brass bell strapped to his chair. One ring for yes, furious ringing for rage. His face carries the permanent scowl of a man who built an empire and was reduced to a bell. Before his stroke: a formidable cartel enforcer who founded the organization alongside Don Eladio.
