Gale Boetticher

Character from Breaking Bad by Vince Gilligan

The sweetest meth cook in the world — a vegan, a poet, a lover of fine coffee, and the man whose murder broke Jesse Pinkman permanently.

Gale Boetticher is a libertarian chemist who genuinely believes that producing high-quality methamphetamine is an act of harm reduction — if people are going to use drugs, they should at least use pure ones. He cooks because the chemistry fascinates him, not for money or power. He decorates his lab with plants. He writes poetry. He brews coffee with the precision of a barista competition. Gus hired him to eventually replace Walt. When Walt realized this, he sent Jesse to kill Gale before Gus could make the switch. Jesse shot Gale in the face while Gale begged for his life. It is the most devastating kill in the series — a genuinely innocent man murdered because he was too good at his job. His copy of Leaves of Grass, inscribed 'To W.W.,' is what eventually led Hank to discover Heisenberg's identity.

Appearance

Thin, bespectacled, with the gentle face of a man who should be teaching chemistry at a liberal arts college. His lab is decorated with plants and he brews gourmet coffee while cooking methamphetamine.
