Dangai (Precipice World)

Location from Bleach by Tite Kubo

The dimensional corridor between Soul Society and the World of the Living — a place where time flows differently and a sentient current called the Kōtotsu sweeps through periodically.

The Dangai is the space between spaces, and Kubo drew it to feel claustrophobic and wrong. Shinigami use it for interdimensional travel but never linger — the Kōtotsu, a giant worm-like entity, periodically sweeps through and anything it catches is ejected into a random time period. Time distortion is the Dangai's most narratively important feature: Isshin used it to give Ichigo three months of training in what was a single day outside. In that time, Ichigo learned the Final Getsuga Tenshō from the manifestation of his Zanpakutō, sacrificing his Shinigami powers for the strength to defeat Aizen. The Dangai is where Ichigo became something beyond captain-level and also where he lost everything.

Appearance

A narrow purple-black tunnel with walls that pulse and shift like living tissue. The space feels compressed — the walls seem to breathe inward. Purple-tinged darkness in every direction. The Kōryū (restrictive current) flows along the walls, capable of trapping anyone who touches it.
